Friend and I each ordered the combo which included udon, onigiri, and osozai. The broth for the udon was fantastic. I ordered the pork udon - no complaints, the tuna mayo onigiri - yummy, and the goma-ae. Food came quickly, and it was easy to find seating. Only complaint was the music was a little loud in the restaurant, and the menu was in a tiny font which made it difficult to make a decision until we were right at the cashier.
Cute spot in a quaint location. I'm not very familiar with Japanese food beyond sushi and really struggled with understanding the menu. I picked an item based on ingredients. The place was packed inside and several outside diners. I ordered the Pirikara Maguro Don which had a great rice-to-everything-else ratio. The flavor was pretty bland but the tuna was good. I would definitely go back to try different menu items and expand my horizons. Service was fast. Could've used paper menus to read while waiting in the long line.
Okome House offers delightful Japanese comfort food served up in a cozy setting in a residential neighborhood. I went with two friends, and we ordered all of the small plates to share, along with 3 onigiri. The plates are small, but we ended up having enough food to satisfy us.
The real standout dishes were the Pirikara hamachi (yellowtail onigiri) and Tori Karaage (fried chicken in a creamy miso soy sauce). The yellowtail onigiri was quite flavorful and utterly delicious. The sauce covering the fried chicken was really tasty too.
Overall, I enjoyed my experience. Some of the dishes didn’t wow me, but the food was generally good. I’m excited to come back to try their other onigiri options.
A fantastic Japanese fast casual restaurant tucked in a neighborhood. There is street parking and I'm sure an adorable patio in the summer. My bowl was 15 bucks. They also have a cute little market with Japanese snacks including the fun sodas that you pop. The food came out pretty much as soon as we sat down after ordering and it was quite delicious. I definitely plan to come back!
A great small japanese restaurant in the Minnehaha area!
Many different japanese dishes that are hard to find in other places in Minnesota, like their ample options of onigiri, good soft-serve matcha ice cream, and Japanese rice bowls.
Staff here was quite friendly (although seemed slightly overworked and busy)
Prices are a bit high overall but definitely worth it for the rarity of this type of restaurant in the area!
Got plenty of food and and more for leftovers when finished! Highly recommend checking out overall
As always, this place is amazing and definitely a hidden treasure. I stopped by for my birthday with some friends and the food was amazing that I went back for seconds! I’ll always stop by if I’m near
I hate giving 3 stars, but this felt appropriate. Cute place tucked away, parking is hard with the snow. Staff are friendly. Got a few onigiri’s, I was super excited to try, maybe I didn’t choose the correct ones but they were all very dry. I probably could have made them at home. My daughter enjoyed the udon. Chicken karagae was different, it was definitely flavorful. The curry bowl was ok, vegetables were cooked perfectly. Dessert was fun, but a lot was store bought. I would say this place is a fun fast casual, but the dishes felt a little underwhelming. This is just my thought and point of view from the many raving reviews posted. I would like to go back and try something different. But nice to know there’s an udon shop around.
Honest review: 3.5/5
Excellent food! The food had such a delicious flavor and the portion size was gracious. All the vegetables in the dish looked like they were cooked from fresh and the ambience was super comfortable. Definitely coming back with friends and family in the future!
